American Apple Pie
A classic American apple pie recipe that is perfect for any occasion. The flaky crust and sweet, tender apples
make this pie a favorite among family and friends.
Ingredients:
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
- 1/2 cup ice water
- 6 cups thinly sliced apples
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon allspice
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Cut in the butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the
mixture resembles coarse sand. Stir in the ice water until the dough comes together in a ball. Divide the dough
in half, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Roll out one half of the dough into a 12-inch circle and transfer to a 9-inch
pie dish. Trim the edges and set aside.
- In a separate bowl, toss the apples with the sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. Arrange the
apples in the pie dish, mounding them slightly in the center. Dot the top with the butter pieces.
- Roll out the remaining half of the dough into a 12-inch circle. Cut into 1-inch strips and lay them in a lattice
pattern over the top of the pie. Trim the edges and crimp to seal. Brush the top with milk or egg wash and
sprinkle with sugar.
- Bake the pie for 15 minutes, then reduce the heat to 350°F (180°C) and continue baking for an additional 45-50
minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly. Allow to cool before serving.
