|

Description |
Silicon Valley Semantic Technology (SVST) Group
Zite - a semantically powered, personalized, magazine for the iPad that pulls articles of interest, including those feeds you provide! It has been the one of most downloaded app for the last few weeks.
Presenter: Mark Johnson is a project manager with a search startup addiction. After cutting his teeth at SAP, he worked at Sidestep (acquired by Kayak), Kosmix, and Powerset (acquired by Microsoft). Mark currently works as a Senior Program Manager Lead at Bing and is an advisor to Zite. You can follow his shenanigans on Twitter at @philosophygeek (warning: content can be . . . intellectual).
Topicmarks - is a web service that creates smart, interactive synopses from electronic documents in minutes. They use the most advanced natural-language processing technology available to understand the true meaning of your text, summarize it and retain all its facts forever. Upload multiple texts and Topicmarks becomes a personalized knowledge base: finding links between texts, grouping texts around topics, and containing all the facts from all documents the user ever reads.
Presenter: Karl Dawson is the CTO of Topicmarks Inc. Prior to Topicmarks, Mr. Dawson was CTO of Deltavista, a data broker based in Switzerland which connects large volumes of data from a myriad of public and private sources through sophisticated record linkage. There, Mr. Dawson not only designed the software and data architecture, but contributed to key parts of the implementation. Before Deltavista, Mr. Dawson was employed at the Amdahl Research Laboratory in Toronto, where he worked on relational database systems with an embedded rule-based engine. Earlier, Mr. Dawson worked five years at I.P. Sharp and Associates in Toronto implementing new language primitives for the company's APL interpreter. Mr. Dawson holds university degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science
Diffbot has recently released a set of free APIs that allow developers
to turn any web document into a real-time stream of structured data.
The Diffbot algorithm uses machine vision techniques to analyze the
structure of documents and extract key metadata. Diffbot technology
is used by Fortune 50 companies for real-time search and content
aggregation. Two internal beta products have been developed by
Diffbot using the technology: a personalized news reader and a web
page to RSS service.
Presenter: Mike Tung is the CEO of Diffbot and designed the original algorithm to help him keep track of class websites. Previously Mike has worked in software development roles at Microsoft and served as a strategic consultant at Yahoo!, Amazon, and eBay. He was one of the founding members of theFind, currently the world's second largest shopping search engine, where he developed a web-scale information extraction architecture. Prior to working at Diffbot, he co-founded video search site Click.tv (now Cisco). Mike holds a US Patent in statistical machine learning, a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from UC Berkeley and a M.S. in Artificial Intelligence from Stanford, where he is currently on a leave of absence from the PhD.
